ABOUT OUR FARM
Cake Flower Farm is a small, specialty cut flower farm located in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County, California. This area, known for producing extraordinary wine grapes, with its warm days and cool nights, is also an ideal location for growing exceptional quality cut flowers.
Set on 2½ acres, our family-run, micro-farm features a beautiful assortment of field-grown flowers, a handful of honeybee hives and some pretty adorable chickens.
THOUGHTFULLY GROWN FLOWERS
At Cake Flower, we use organic growing practices and are deeply passionate about the quality of our blooms. Our primary focus is the health of both the plants and the soil. Regular applications of organic compost, efficient irrigation, hand cultivation for weed management, and consistent foliar feedings are just a few of the methods we use to encourage strong, healthy growth.
It is extremely important to us that our sustainably grown flowers are not only safe for people to enjoy, but also pollinator-friendly. This commitment guides our daily farming practices.
UNIQUE, GORGEOUS BLOOMS
We specialize in growing elegant varieties of our favorite old-fashioned flowers. Each one has been carefully selected for its fabulous fragrance, lovely coloring, and distinctive charm.

LOCAL & SEASONAL
Our cut flowers are field-grown right here on our farm in Santa Rosa, California. Our blooming season runs from mid-spring through early fall, beginning with the delicate hellebores and bearded iris of spring, followed by summer’s lush garden roses, hydrangeas, and dahlias. As fall approaches, we celebrate the season with richly colored dahlias and our beautiful specialty pumpkins.
MEET JANET
Hi, I’m Janet. I’ve loved garden flowers for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always been especially drawn to those dreamy, romantic varieties — fragrant roses in muted tones, frilly peonies in vibrant corals, fluffy hydrangeas in lime green & rosy pink…and those wild, creamy blush dinnerplate dahlias.
In 2019, I decided to take a chance. I transitioned from a job I loved in the wine industry to start a small, specialty cut flower farm. I enrolled in Floret’s flower farming workshop (which was so awesome & inspiring!) and began planting all my favorite flowers on the 2½ acres my husband and I share with our chickens, honeybees, and one very charming desert tortoise.
INSPIRATION FOR THE FARM NAME
I really enjoy baking, and I love cake, so the name Cake Flower Farm was inspired by two things that always make me happy—cake and flowers. I adore the cakes from Violet Bakery, which are beautifully decorated with fresh flowers, and I hope to do something similar one day: offering delicious, beautiful cakes decorated with flowers I’ve grown myself.
ON DRIED FLOWERS
There’s something about the process of drying dahlias that excites me. To take these gorgeous, vibrant, fresh blooms and allow them to reinvent themselves into something completely different—and beautiful (and long-lasting!)—is such a joy. I just can’t get over how much personality the dried versions have. Whether it’s a twist in the petal or the way the colors soften as they dry, the end results are always stunning.
ABOUT OUR FLOWER STAND
During the blooming season, I open a little honor-system flower stand a few mornings each week. We have a flower bar where we sell fresh flowers by the stem, dried flowers by the bunch, and specialty pumpkins in the fall. One of the best parts of growing flowers — besides working outside with those fabulous blooms — are the sweet notes our customers leave for me at the stand!
